Compare/Contrast Essay

Objectives:
*Students will watch JFMF participant Mike Anderson’s video clip of school visitations.
*Students will write an outline following the Step Up to Writing format including: lunchtime, clean up, & after school activities
*Students will compare and contrast West Valley School in Montana with Mikatsuki School in Japan.
*Students will share essays during Open House, September 20,2007

Pen Pals/ Friendly Letter Format

Objectives:
*Students will write to an assigned Pen Pal from Karyo Junior High School in Japan.
*Students will follow the “Friendly Letter” format in the text Write Source 2000.
*Students will include the relative location of Montana (geography)
*Students will include Japanese words

Haiku

Haiku is a type of Japanese poetry, Haiku are short poems that usually describe nature and a fleeting moment in time; they often contain a reference to a season of the year called kigo.
Objectives:
*Students will hear and read examples of Haiku.
*Students will write Haiku poems.
