February 2017

Hello West Valley Parents,

Our next PTO meeting is next Monday, February 13th, at 7:00 pm in the school library — please come!  You can visit this Facebook link to RSVP, and feel free to invite any other WV parent friends to join us: https://www.facebook.com/events/222660828142450/.  We will be discussing how to make the best use of the funds we have raised this year. One of our big fundraising goals as a PTO, has been to get a double sided, electronic reader board for the front of the school.  This would be such a great asset for our school for many reasons, allowing us to:

— communicate with parents about upcoming events — i.e. early out, teacher appreciation week, parent/teacher conferences, snow day, fundraisers, sports functions, etc

— community awareness

— possibly some fun trivia?

Speaking of fund raising, Five Guys is doing a fundraiser for West Valley School on March 7th and 9th, from 5-7 pm each night.  They will donate 15% of all meals purchased during that time frame, to our school, and all dollars raised from this fundraiser, will go directly towards our reader board, so save the date, mark your calendars, and plan on having a “BURGER NIGHT” or two! Here’s the facebook links for these events — post them on your walls, and invite your friends and families to come buy a burger and help us raise money for a reader board!  https://www.facebook.com/events/400023953663869/ and https://www.facebook.com/events/242121062907525/ We are having a friendly competition between the classes so K-4 families should go on Tuesday if possible and 5-8 families should try for Thursday. There is no prize for the winning night except maybe bragging rights, so if you have students in both groups, just pick whichever one works for you. We appreciate any and all support you can offer us!

Our West Valley’s WARRIOR DASH fueled by BOXTOPS is still going strong!  The competition runs from January 3rd through March 24th, 2017, and we have already raised more than $800 with the box tops that have been collected so far, so keep on clipping and asking your friends to save them for you. Clipped box top/Labels for Education collections must be turned into the classroom teacher, in a bag or envelope labeled with the teacher’s name/grade and turned into the collection bin next to the front office for appropriate credit to be given. Collections will be counted every two weeks — check the bulletin board at the front of the school for updated results and additional information. So far, Mrs. Napier’s 2nd grade class is in the lead! Box tops are worth 10 cents each and really do add up!

Many thanks for all you do to support our school!

May 24, 2016-

Thank you to all those who attended our final PTO meeting of the year last night.  There was a good turnout, and we made great progress with our fundraising plans for next year.  Our biggest fund raising effort recently, has been to get an electronic reader board for the school, so that we can post upcoming events, news flashes, dates to remember, etc. on an easy to read, central location.  We discussed the cost of various reader boards, and have raised about a fourth of what we would need to pay for a double sided reader board, so we will continue to work on that fund raising goal with next year’s fundraisers.

There are only three days left in the Clipping Mahem Competition!  We have collected 3,298 box tops and labels for education over the past 3 weeks.  The competition is far from decided, so get them turned in this week!  Currently, 3rd grade is in first place for the prize of ice cream sandwiches the last week of school, with 2nd and 4th grades in 2nd and 3rd place.  West Valley PTO recently received a check for $880 from the box tops program, so they really do add up.  Thank you to everyone who has made a submission to help our school fund the extra things for our students at West Valley.  Just a friendly reminder — please label your box tops envelope with the grade level and/or teacher’s name and drop them into the box tops cylinder at the front of the school.

The last day of school — Play Day — is coming up on June 8th.  The PTO will be providing lunch for the K-5th grade students at no charge.  The menu includes hot dogs, chips, water, and a treat.

Our biggest fund raiser for next fall, will be the West Valley School Holiday craft show and festival on Saturday, November 19th, 2016 from 10-4.  Ideas we have so far, are:

  • High quality, hand crafted arts and crafts show in the big gym
  • A “Kid Zone” in the small gym — hopefully with bounce houses and other fun kid things
  • Silent auction
  • A food booth/concession stand

Over the summer, we will be looking for a few good crafters to fill our craft show, so if you know of anyone who makes beautiful hand crafted treasures, please encourage them to contact the event coordinator — Beth Anderson — at westvalleypto@gmail.com or at (406) 407-0937 for more information.  If you haven’t done so yet, “like" our PTO Facebook page and get updates about what is happening next — https://www.facebook.com/West-Valley-PTO-243470825790491/.

Thanks to all of you who volunteer your time to our school!

May Newsletter

Thank you to each of you who attended the PTO meeting last month.  We made some plans for the rest of the school year, and shared some exciting ideas for next year. We also elected a new set of leaders for the 2016-2017 school year.   We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Erica Wirtala, Nancy Wendt, Gretchen Brown, Cammi Peck, Rebecca Cleveland, and more, who have gone before us as leaders, and who have contributed greatly to making our PTO and school a better place!  These gals have spent countless hours, often un-noticed or recognized, doing what needed to be done to serve our school, and we appreciate it VERY much!

Going forward, we are happy to announce, that several volunteers have stepped up to the leadership plate. Please welcome:

PTO president — Beth Anderson

PTO vice president — Mara Strobel

PTO Treasurer:  Cammi Peck will remain in this position

Some of our goals for the PTO, are as follows:

To see our PTO grow in numbers, and become a well organized team

Create a positive, welcoming atmosphere where all who participate feel welcome and valued

Incorporate some new fundraising ideas

The next (and final) PTO meeting for the year, is Monday, May 23rd at 7 pm in the West Valley School library.  Please consider attending and see what we're all about!

Our biggest fund raiser for next year, is already on our calendar!  On Saturday, November 19th, 2016, we are going to do a Craft show/festival/silent auction. Over the summer and early fall, we will be recruiting vendors to fill our juried arts and crafts show.  Specifically, we are looking for vendors who make high quality, hand crafted merchandise.  The majority of the booth space fee for each vendor, will go straight to the school, with a small portion reserved to help cover advertising costs.  In addition, we will have a silent auction and a Kid Zone area at the event — complete with bounce houses, cookie decorating, a bake sale table (to benefit the PTO), and more!  Please tell all your crafty friends about this opportunity to support our school AND sell their crafty things.  Interested vendors can contact Beth Anderson at the PTO email address listed below, as she will be organizing the vendor applications.

Just a reminder, that our final Box Top Competition runs from May 2nd - 27th!  Clip those box tops and send them into school.  Put them in a baggy or envelope labeled with your child’s teacher/grade and drop them into the big, pink box top cylinder by the front office at the school.
